It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the badge attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
